Hospital Blues.

The field hospital is overwhelmed with patients.

We lost a mother and her newborn this morning. A security team from Italy found the mom lying in the street with her water broken for hours. She couldn't get anyone to take her. A doctor with the security patrol said there was no point -- she was going to die anyway. The two female officers told him they would beat him half to death if he didn't try.

She died while in triage. She never did get treated and probably never did have a chance. Her baby was dead long before her.

After a week of hysterical reports about violence, I finally saw my first gun shot wound today. There is so much less violence than anywhere I have worked in the States.
